Barrow Site Earns GRAD designation

Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development (GRAD) Site Designation Announced by Barrow Economic Development

(Statham, Georgia, June 30, 2010) – The Barrow Economic Development Council announced official designation of 104 acres +/- site in Statham, Georgia as a Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development (GRAD) site. The designation was awarded by the Georgia Allies, a state marketing collaborative, which launched the GRAD Sites Program as a proactive effort to develop a pool of available sites ready for manufacturing and research companies. To qualify for GRAD status, these available sites have been submitted by a local community or economic development applicant and selected by the Allies for review, and their applications have been reviewed by an experienced professional site selection consultant. “On behalf of the Georgia Allies, congratulations to the Barrow Economic Development Council for achieving GRAD designation for the GA 316 site. It’s a difficult but worthwhile process and places the site among only seven others in Georgia. The Allies members are giving extra significance to these GRAD sites as we market Georgia,” said Randy Cardoza, Managing Director, Economic Development, AGL Resources, for the Georgia Allies.
“In today’s economic climate, prospective companies are seeking sites that can accommodate a rapid schedule. It is communities that offer well prepared sites that best compete. I am pleased to boast this prestigious asset among Barrow’s inventory of available sites,” said Linda Moore, Vice President with Barrow Economic Development Council. The rigorous and costly due diligence process requires full commitment by the property owner. Among the items that must be addressed are zoning designation, road/transportation accessibility, utilities service, geotechnical and environmental investigations. Dr. Stanley Coley, renowned embryologist, is the owner/developer of the real estate on University Parkway (Hwy 316) at Statham. Dr. Coley describes this site as ideal for the development of a research and entrepreneurial park.
The Barrow GRAD site is strategically located along the University Parkway between Athens and Atlanta in Barrow County, and lies within the Innovation Crescent region. It is one of 8 sites in the state to achieve official GRAD designation.
