Winder, a City of Opportunities

Developing from the native village of Snodon in the 1700s, through the small farming town of Jug Tavern, and on to a vibrant and growing city strategically located along major thoroughfares between Atlanta and the Northeastern United States, the City Winder has a long and fascinating history and is poised to face the challenges of the future.

A Georgia Main Street City with an active Downtown Development program, Winder is in the midst of a Streetscape Beautification Program that will not only enhance and increase green space, but will increase both parking and pedestrian access to a revitalized downtown business district.

Winder is the only incorporated city in the State of Georgia to have a State Park located right within its city limits. At Fort Yargo State Park, camping, hiking, picnicking, boating and fishing opportunities abound, and it's all located less than two miles from the heart of the city.

Certified a City of Ethics by the Georgia Municipal Association, Winder has reputation for fiscal responsibility and open government, having received the Government Finance Officers Association Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for six consecutive years.

With Cultural Arts and Community Events available within walking distance and ample room for both stately southern "mansions" and active industrial sites, Winder is a great place to work, live and enjoy life.

Now you know why we like to say – "Winder is a great place to Park and stay awhile!"
